2024.12.02

On December 2nd, the first Animal Biosafety “Challenge Cup” competition, hosted by the Chinese Society for Microbiology and organized by the Beijing Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, came to a successful conclusion.

The purpose of this competition was to focus on the innovation of serological detection technology for animal diseases and the improvement of the quality of diagnostic antigens for ruminant diseases, injecting new vitality into the development of China’s animal biosafety field. In this competition, a total of 20 units from across the country actively participated, covering various fields such as research institutes, universities, and enterprises. The participants closely followed the theme of the competition, engaging in a fierce technological contest. After a series of rigorous and detailed procedures including sample registration, blinding, testing, comparison, unblinding, analysis, and expert discussion, 31 outstanding works were finally selected. These works have provided useful references for future technological research and application.

The successful holding of this competition is a concrete measure to implement the innovation-driven development strategy and is of great significance for promoting the deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation in China’s animal biosafety field. The competition fully demonstrated China’s innovation capability and technical strength in the field of animal biosafety, providing strong support for the high-quality development of China’s biosafety cause.

This competition received extensive attention and support from the Veterinary Service Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the China Animal Disease Control Center, the Northern Key Laboratory for Animal Biosafety Risk Monitoring and Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, as well as 11 provincial (municipal) animal disease prevention and control centers. The active participation of these units has provided a strong guarantee for the smooth progress of the competition and laid a solid foundation for the future development of China’s animal biosafety cause. Here, we express our heartfelt thanks to all the units that supported this competition and look forward to the next competition achieving even greater success, contributing more to China’s animal biosafety cause.
